CRASH Services, Northern Ireland’s leading accident management company, is celebrating more than six years of successfully operating a four-day working week, highlighting its ongoing commitment to employee wellbeing, workplace innovation, and exceptional customer service.

As one of the first employers in Northern Ireland to introduce a reduced working week with no reduction in salary, CRASH Services continues to demonstrate how investing in people can deliver significant benefits for employees, customers, and business performance alike.

Leading the Way with a Four-Day Working Week

Since January 2020, all CRASH Services employees have worked a 28-hour week instead of 35 hours, while continuing to receive full pay and benefits.

The initiative was the result of extensive planning and research, with preparations beginning in 2018. More than six years later, the company reports strong results, including:

  • Improved employee wellbeing
  • Better work-life balance
  • Increased staff morale
  • High employee retention
  • Continued excellence in customer service

As a business that supports motorists following road traffic accidents across Northern Ireland, CRASH Services recognises the importance of ensuring employees feel supported, motivated, and able to perform at their best.

Creating a Better Work-Life Balance

Operations Director Michelle Murphy said:

“Our team supports customers during challenging and often stressful situations following an accident. Ensuring a healthy work-life balance enables our people to perform at their best, giving care and compassion to all our customers.

When we introduced the four-day week after a two-year planning project starting in 2018, there was palpable excitement across the business. Six years on, the results speak for themselves.”

Now celebrating its 30th year in business, CRASH Services has built a reputation for putting people first through progressive workplace policies and employee-focused initiatives.

Recent employee feedback highlights the success of the model, with 94% of staff reporting that the four-day week has helped them achieve a better work-life balance.

Michelle added:

“Our research showed that time spent with family, friends and on personal wellbeing is incredibly valuable to our team. The foundations we’ve built have allowed us to continue moving forward while delivering exceptional service to our customers.”

Positive Impact on Customer Service and Company Culture

The four-day working week has not only benefited employees but has also helped strengthen customer confidence in the organisation.

Marketing Director Paula Mahoney said:

“From a marketing perspective, the four-day week has become a powerful reflection of our core values. It demonstrates that we put people first, both our customers and our team.

Our customer feedback reinforces this, with 99% of clients saying they would recommend CRASH to a friend or family member and 98% of employees recommending CRASH as a great place to work. That level of trust speaks volumes about the service we provide and the dedication of our people.

Reduced hours have helped strengthen our culture and our service, and we believe this model will continue to grow in popularity. We’re proud to have led the way and to share our results with others.”

A Workplace Built Around People

At CRASH Services, supporting employees is viewed as an essential part of delivering excellent customer outcomes. The company’s four-day week continues to demonstrate that organisations can successfully improve employee wellbeing while maintaining productivity, customer satisfaction, and business growth.

As workplace practices continue to evolve, CRASH Services remains proud to be at the forefront of flexible working in Northern Ireland.
