P7 Pupils Showcase Their Road Safety Knowledge at the Northern Ireland Primary School Road Safety Quiz Final
On Monday 9 March 2026, pupils from across Northern Ireland gathered in Cookstown for the prestigious NI Primary School Road Safety Quiz Final, a flagship event promoting road safety awareness among primary school children.
Sponsored by CRASH Services, Northern Ireland’s leading accident management company, the event marked the culmination of 11 regional heats and brought together the province’s most knowledgeable young road safety ambassadors.
Now in its 31st year, the quiz continues to grow in popularity and impact, thanks to the dedication and commitment of volunteers from Road Safe NI, organisers of the annual competition.
Encouraging Road Safety Education Across Northern Ireland
The competition saw Primary 7 pupils representing schools from every corner of Northern Ireland compete in a fun and engaging test of road safety knowledge and general awareness.
Teams of four pupils represented their schools, with the top two teams from each of the 11 heats qualifying for the grand final at the Glenavon Hotel.
The quiz consisted of seven rounds of eight questions covering:
- Road safety awareness
- Pedestrian safety
- Cycling safety
- Road signs
- General knowledge
- Safe road user behaviour
The initiative aims to educate children about road safety from an early age, helping them develop habits and behaviours that can keep them safe throughout their lives.
Record Number of Schools Take Part
Davy Jackson, Chairperson of Road Safe NI, praised the continued success of the programme:
“We are thrilled with the continued success of the annual Primary School Road Safety Quiz. This year saw the largest entry to date, with 210 schools registered across 11 heats. The final brought together two teams from each heat, all competing to be crowned NI champions at the Glenavon Hotel.
Road Safe NI extends its gratitude to all participating schools, teachers and pupils for their dedication to road safety education.”

Paula Mahoney, Marketing Director at CRASH Services, highlighted the importance of educating young people about staying safe on the roads:

Minister Commends Pupils’ Road Safety Efforts
Department for Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins delivered a pre-recorded message to participants, recognising their achievements and commitment to road safety:
“I am really sorry that I can’t be with you all this evening, but I would like to wish all the teams the very best of luck.
I know you have all worked very hard to get to the final tonight and I want to thank you for playing your part in road safety within your communities and amongst your friends and families.
I can’t understate how important that is, and your efforts are truly valued.”
The Minister concluded by wishing all participants an enjoyable evening and congratulating them on reaching the final.

After a closely contested final, the winning schools were:
1st Place – Enniskillen Model Primary School
2nd Place – Annahilt Primary School
3rd Place – Castleroe Primary School
