-Accident services leader unveils new insurance products aimed at young drivers
Northern Ireland’s leading accident services provider, CRASH Services, has signed an agreement with a major UK young driver insurance provider Marmalade which allows them to provide innovative insurance products aimed specifically at hard-pressed local young drivers.
The first product to be available is learner driver insurance, which provides affordable, flexible short term cover allowing the provisional licence holders to practice driving in their parent’s or friend’s car without the risk of effecting their no claims bonus.
The second product to be introduced is cars for young drivers, which is a unique scheme that combines the purchase of a lower-risk new car and the first year’s insurance. Compared to the cost of buying and insuring an older car, this product can help a young person make significant savings in their first year of driving.

“Young drivers in Northern Ireland are suffering enormously because of the cost of motoring but unlike their counterparts in Great Britain haven’t had access to a wide range of competitive, affordable insurance products which are designed to help them get on the road. This agreement with Marmalade allows us to bring those benefits to our next generation of drivers.
“We have extensive knowledge of the insurance market within Northern Ireland. Our decision to partner with Marmalade is part of a strategic move into providing innovative products to insurance brokers and their clients. We have plans to introduce further insurance products in the near future. In particular, we see real potential in the emerging blackbox technology based insurance market.”
This move is a major step for CRASH, which is becoming a significant player in the provision of high-tech ‘black box’ in-car technology designed to encourage safer driving and reduce the traditionally high insurance costs for young drivers.

Learner Driver Insurance
Learner driver insurance allows young people to practice their driving skills without risking the no claims bonus of the car owner should a claim be made. The drivers are not restricted to only driving with the person who owns the car; they can be supervised by anyone over the age of 25 who has had a full UK driver’s licence for at least 3 years, subject to their insurance and owner’s permission. This policy can cost as little as £85 per month, often a far cheaper alternative than being added to a family policy. The length of the policy can be
one- three months’ cover. And, if longer is needed the policy can be extended at any time.
Cars for young drivers
This is a unique car purchase and insurance scheme to get young drivers into a new or nearly new, safer car in a more affordable way. Marmalade offers cashback on new cars, which can then use as a deposit, to put towards insurance costs if the driver so chooses. It also comes with a year’s tax and MOT, although cashback is not available with the nearly new cars. Marmalade provides new /nearly new cars because those manufactured in 2006 and later, with a minimum 4 star Euro NCAP safety rating are proven to be safer.
