CRASH Services have announced the latest apprentices to be chosen as the lucky recipients of their ‘Bodyshop Apprentice Scholarship’ scheme, which is worth an impressive £10,000 to each apprentice during their three-year training course.

Mark Callan, from Portstewart, and Ben Priestley, from Lisburn, are the third and fourth recipients of the CRASH Services-Riverpark Training Scholarships. They follow in the footsteps of the 2019 winners Lee Curran, from Ballycastle, and Josh Conlon, from Newtownabbey.

The initiative was launched in 2019 to encourage and attract more apprentices into the Northern Ireland car body repair industry.

Mark will be completing his training with AG Automotive in Portstewart and Ben with Porters Body Shop in Portadown.

Speaking after being awarded his prize, Mark said “I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have been awarded the CRASH Services Scholarship. None of this would have been possible without Riverpark Training and Development, along with the guidance of Alan Glendenning at AG Automotive. It will help me advance my skills as I serve my apprenticeship with the AG team. I always had an interest in cars and so pursuing this career is part of wanting to learn more about them and how to get the best out of them. As cars keep getting more complicated it takes a lot more effort to keep up to date. And I’m very confident about my future in the industry.”

Ben was similarly delighted, stating “I feel very honoured to be a recipient of the CRASH Services Scholarship, in association with Riverpark Training. The scholarship will aid my learning and allow me to progress in Porters Bodyshop, whilst enabling me to buy the necessary tools to help me become more efficient. I am excited that the scholarship will also provide me with post-Covid travel opportunities to increase my knowledge of current and future bodywork technologies.”

Jonathan McKeown, CEO of CRASH Services commented; ‘At CRASH we work closely with the vehicle repair trade and hear first hand from our customers the stories of great local services being provided by skilled and experienced car bodywork operatives. We are therefore very happy to be contributing to the education of a new generation of the industry. I congratulate Mark and Ben and wish them luck with their training at Riverpark.”

Colin Hagan, Managing Director at Riverpark Training said “It is a compliment to the quality of our training that CRASH Services has chosen us to source apprentices worthy of a £10,000 scholarship. Congratulations to the two winners – the scholarships will certainly make a difference to their futures! Now, as with all our apprentices, we will help them develop their skills to allow them to be self-sufficient quickly and become confident in their chosen careers within the repair industry.”
